DIYBMS v4 ebay sellers

Sure as hell doesn’t look like it!
With 311 sold, it looks a lot more like someone is turning a profit from Stuart’s work. Viz:

Well that guys made $3000 more than I’ve made from the project

you will just have to sell on ebay as an official seller / supplier and undercut him until he makes no profit to keep doing it

Yes stuart those should be your $3000 just sell them as kits with support on the forum and no returns so people know what they are getting and you don’t waste too much time…

Put a listing on eBay and make it clear that you are the rightful originator of said product and any other
DIYBMS product is sold by a dishonest vendor. i.e. his actions violate the license tems, etc. etc.

Build your listing so that when they find his listing, they find yours too.

Besides this…
As you are the rightful owner, and it’s an illegal copy (due violation of license)…
With your own listing his is for eBay illegal.

You might even stop selling afterwards.

It then is their own backyard that gets dirty and not a “random claim”.

Violation makes it illegal copy and eBay is quick on those!!!

You even can press legal claims via eBay on his profits.

Magic word “illegal copy” :nerd_face::+1:

I’m just learning my way around this forum, planning to build some solar monitoring products starting off with the DIYBMS to get familiar with that part to get started. It seems this project is ripe to really ramp it up but its either a little complex to order and build the semi finished kits, or the shop is sold out. I am making primarily HVAC controls and sensors, operating out of Shanghai with some pretty good electronics manufacturing resources here. Will report back shortly what we can find on the local market for parts, etc. This is a great project and I would like to support it one way or another. I now see that its not OK to just sell the gear on Ebay, got it. Thanks Stuart for sharing a great project.

OK, we managed to find all the parts from the local market and have started rounding up enough to make a small batch, 5 controllers and 10 modules. Thanks again Stuart for the great project. If others need parts we can help you get 'em at our cost but shipping could well be a deal breaker from here on small orders, we use Fedex International Priority for pretty much everything and that means ~$25 USD for the first 500 grams / $12 for each additional kg (typical price for USA).

Here’s the really rough numbers, just direct from our vendors for now with nothing added to get the parts from our vendor to us, etc. Just throwing it out there for feedback at this point.

Hey Stuart, this freeloader is offering walkthroughs of your intellectual property. So disgusting.

I have already made a report on ebay and ebay kleinanzeigen.

I also bought an ESP32 controller there. He is also active here at the board.
Was expensive. But for me had some avantages.
No trouble to find all parts. I need only one or two controller board. Not 5.
No trouble to program the ESP32. Seem me a little complicate when you do it for the first time.
And the cellboards are easy to flash with the ESP32 controller.

Now I change to the 1.9f Version from VAS and sell the 4.40 boards.
Because I planned to use 32 cells at first I ordered much to much.
And to buy 50 was more resonable than to buy 25 plus 10.
And when I decided to change to 1.9f I had still the plan to use 32.
Then I changed my mind when I saw more than 14kWh is economical bullshit for me.
No I sell the cell boards which I have to much.
You need about 6€ to order them without Attiny.
And Attiny you get only from Asia in the moment for minimum 2,50$ plus shipping and VAT.
And its some work to solder the boards, flash, run and calibrate them.
Plus Data cables. I gave a complete set of 32 4.4 to a user in germany.
And a set of 16 1.9f boards to an other incl. Attiny and a missing mosfet.
I still have 1.9f for two further batteries to give away. Thereafter I only have my own ones.
And some spares If I´m again stupid enough to kill some boards.
( Got it managed with three 4.40 and one 1.9f. The 1.9f seems to work. But no data transfer… )
Hopefully this is not a problem…

Cell boards for 11€ seem to be ok. The rest in the ebay offer I also found “interesting”.

Not really, although now out of stock, this forum’s shop was selling 8 modules (complete) for £44 (inc tax).

UK is outside EU.
Add Import tax and shipping.

And are you sure that this is an actual calculation?
I expect it was the calculation last year.
I payed for the new 1.9f 5€ per board end of April at JLC.
Without Attiny and the large Mosfet. With pin header.
But without pin header for the jumper.
Did not mention this has to be closed for operation…

The Mosfets were to get at Ali for 50ct/PC.
And the Attiny was not to get here for a reasonable price and time.
In UK there is a joker who wants 14€. Per piece.
Farnell Europe says back in stock end of 23.
Got an offer of 2€ at Ali. Was xcelled after 4 weeks from the seller.
Got the money back.
Made an advertisement at Alibaba.
Got offers from 2,50 till 3,80$ per piece.
A little cheaper if I would take some thousands…
One offered finally 200 for 2,50$/p. Plus tax and shipping.
I could persuade them to ship in an envelope by air.
Surprising. I got them after a week. Finally nearly 4$ incl. tax and shipping.

Last year we had a currency rate of 1,20/1 $/€.
Now we have nearly 1/1.

I do not see how to get it for 6€ as in the shop here.
At first it’s it of stock, Second I expect the exchange rate makes it more expensive, third if you let it sent to Germany you have to pay 19% import tax.

If I buy all directly I need today 8,50€ for a 1.9f cell board in Germany.
And it’s not jet finally soldered, programmed and calibrated.
Nor you have the cables. For 10€ you get V4.4 included with all.
Soldered and working. As long as board are available.
I have now 13 left. Because I change to the 1.9f. when I have time.
To many other stuff to do…

The 13 are still working on my Battery.
And I have the situation that LEDs break down now. After 2 months.
I changed 2 boards because the blue LED is inop now.
The boards work but…

Nevertheless it’s a cheap solution for what it’s possible to do with.

The £44 includes UK VAT @ 20%, so you can take that off straight away for EU orders.

The calculation was from earlier this year, but agree the ATTINY are difficult to get hold of.

I order the boards 200+ at a time to supply the shop, so there is a discount for the scale etc.

Ok. This is around 7€ per board incl. shipping when you order 16.
But it does not help if they are sold out. Or parts missing or long time to get them.

Stuart, make a new actual calculation.
Since the Ukrainien crises the prices explode.
Otherwise sell your boards below your costs.
And you made the complete developement for nothing.

As I told. I do not get it managed below 8,50€ for 1.9f.
The 4.4 is a little cheaper. Smaller. Less parts. But I expect 8€.
And when one is kind enough to solder a set for an other so it must be OK to get a crate of beer for it.
( And also the beer price here in germany made 10% in the last months. )

BTW: Why does the shop not sell ESP controller and shunts?
The cell board is needed in minimum 8 pieces.
The controller or shunt is needed only by one.
One you cant order for a reasonable price at JLC.
So it would make more sense to offer the controller at the webshop for one who needs only one.
The result is: the guys order minimum 5 and try to sell the surplus ones.
Could be avoided if there would be an offer for a resonable price for one controller.

I payed 130€ at the ebay shop to get a working ESP32 ccontroller.
Was not in the mood to order 5, find all the parts and find buyers for the remaining controllers…
And to have all the trouble to program them with only small experience of ASP flashing.

If anyone interested,

I’m stopping my DIYBMS project.

I have 67 cell modules available
34 X 4.40 (20 not yet soldered, all parts include)
33 X 4.0 modules

27x 4.0 module that need rework.
(Attiny841 is good)

5 bonus Attiny 841
